Description
A comforting and budget-friendly pasta dish with ground beef, tomatoes, and Italian seasonings. Perfect for a quick and easy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound pasta (penne, rotini, or elbow macaroni)
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 ounces canned diced tomatoes
- 15 ounces tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- Shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- 1. In a large skillet or pot, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- 2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion is softened and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- 3. Pour in the canned diced tomatoes (undrained) and tomato sauce. Stir to combine.
- 4. Add the beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 5. Stir in the pasta. Make sure the pasta is mostly covered by the sauce mixture; add a little more broth if needed.
- 6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through and the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 7. Serve hot, topped with shredded cheddar cheese if desired.
