Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Burger buns (brioche or sesame seed buns work great)
  • Cheddar cheese slices
  • Crispy bacon strips
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomato
  • Red onion slices
  • Your favorite burger sauce (mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, or a special sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion soup mix, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix gently.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium high heat.
  4. Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium doneness (160°F/71°C).
  5. During the last minute of cooking, place cheddar cheese slices on top of each patty. Cover to melt the cheese.
  6. Lightly toast the burger buns. Spread your favorite burger sauce on both halves of the bun.
  7. Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheesy patty, and crispy bacon.
