- For the Pizza Roses:
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices, thinly sliced
- Olive oil, for brushing
- Optional: Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2. Combine Ingredients: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- 6. Prepare the Rose Petals: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle about 1/8 inch thick.
- 7. Add the Toppings: Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Arrange pepperoni slices in overlapping rows along the length of the dough.
- 8. Roll the Dough: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
- 9. Cut into Roses: Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1 1/2 inch slices. These will be your pizza roses.
- 10. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the pizza roses cut side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 11. Bake: Brush the tops with olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the roses are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 12. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve warm.
