- 3–4 pound beef brisket
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the brisket and rub with the dry rub mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear the brisket on all sides until browned.
- Place sliced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of a slow cooker.
- Place the seared brisket on top.
- Whisk together beef broth, barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the brisket.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until fork tender.
- Remove the brisket and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before shredding or slicing.
- Spoon cooking liquid over the brisket and serve.
