Description

This ultimate grilled balsamic steak salad is a celebration of fresh flavors, tender steak, and a tangy balsamic glaze. This easy to make recipe is incredibly satisfying and customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, about 1 inch thick
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 6 cups mixed greens
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup crumbled gorgonzola cheese
  • 1/4 cup toasted pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.
  2. Preheat your grill to medium high heat.
  3. Remove the steak from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels. Discard the marinade. Grill the steak for about 4 6 minutes per side for medium rare, or adjust cooking time to your desired level of doneness. The steak is ready when an instant read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 130 135 degrees F for medium rare.
  4. Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender steak.
  5. While the steak is resting, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey or maple syrup, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  6. In a large bowl, combine mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, and red onion.
  7. Thinly slice the steak against the grain.
  8. Drizzle the balsamic vinaigrette over the salad and toss gently to combine.
  9. Arrange the sliced steak on top of the salad. Sprinkle with crumbled gorgonzola cheese and toasted nuts (if using).
